Finding Good Insurance Can Be Confusing
With all of the hundreds of commercials for cheap car insurance–all of them claiming to be the best, or the cheapest, or to have the best coverage–how do you know what car insurance to choose?
I remember being a kid when my dad used to tell me to choose something for the family–maybe dinner location, maybe a movie…I hated it though, usually because I had no idea what was gonna be best for everyone.
When you know what it is you’re looking for, it’s easy to make a good decision, and THAT is why I’m here to help you–here to help you with what to look for in car insurance.
1.) First, you’ll want to look at the price of your car insurance.
Now, contrary to what you might think, you probably can’t just decide on a price and look for a company that will meet that. What you should really do is compare quotes from 3-5 different insurance companies, then choose the lowest available price that is offered for your specific needs.
2.) Second, you’ll want to check out liability coverage.
This is the car insurance that covers any damage to another vehicle in an accident that is your fault. The key thing to look for with your liability coverage is whether or not it provides enough funds to cover both the cost of the vehicle damage and the medical expenses.
3.) Third, you’ll want to inspect your collision insurance
This covers damage to your vehicle when the accident is your fault. It’s important that you are aware of the value of your vehicle when you apply for collision insurance and that you clarify whether or not this insurance covers the value of your vehicle pre-crash or post-crash.
4.) Next, you’ll want to be sure to include uninsured driver coverage.
This is for those less than intelligent souls who don’t drive with their vehicles insured. It’ll protect you by covering any damage done to your car or you in the event of an accident that is not your fault.
5.) If you’ve ever broken down, you’ll agree that the roadside response and repair services are super important!
You’ll want to ask about response times for towing needs, whether or not the company provides rental options while you are waiting for car repair, and how quickly insurance claims are assessed and approved.
6.) Another insurance aspect to check on is the flexibility of specific policies.
If an insurance company doesn’t provide you with a variety of affordable options for your specific needs–if they say that you only get one option, you’ll want to continue shopping.
7.) The benefits and discounts offered by insurance companies are also important aspects to check into.
You’ll know that an insurance company is good if you notice things like easy payment options, accident forgiveness for the first accident, after hours services, and 24 hr claims assistance.
8.) One final, yet still important aspect of insurance that you should inspect is the customer service.
When you are talking to customer service asking about claims or even just for information, they should by timely and helpful and should be dedicated to helping you get back to your vehicle quickly.
Once you’ve looked at each of these aspects, you’ll have a good idea of what kind of company you’re dealing with. Don’t forget that what’s good for someone else may not be good for you, so don’t decide solely based on someone else’s opinion.
